Indigo's previous website was a bespoke development, built and maintained by a local supplier. As the business has grown Indigo were looking to evolve and grow the website to support more customers, more complex transactions (such as customers being able to choose they different wood finishes available) and integrate with finance providers to help customers pay for their purchases in a convenient way.
Indigo approached salesonrails cautiously initially, trialing it extensively while the product was in active development and helping guide some of the processes used in salesonrails. As the business is reliant on the trading of its website, they knew the solution they would commit to must work flawlessly and allow them a seamless transition whilst maximising flexibility.
Paramount to Indigo use of salesonrails was the ability for them to have bespoke solutions added to the platform, that is, to change the way areas of the system worked. salesonrails is unique in that as a serviced solution it allows customers to override functionality on the platform to better suit the needs of their business, without having a negative impact on the service or upgrade paths.
Indigo switched over to the salesonrails platform in December 2008, just before the January sales. The platform has been growing ever since delivering more and more traffic and orders and reducing the processes the administrative staff have to complete.
One of the key upgrade Indigo have taken is to put into place Hitachi's Pay By Finance package, this allows customers to apply for and take out real-time credit to pay for their purchases.
